Con gran éxito se efectuó el Primer Curso de Enfermedades Óseas Metabólicas, “de la infancia a la adultez”

La primera versión del Curso de Enfermedades Óseas Metabólicas, “de la infancia a la adultez”, de la Sociedad Chilena de Endocrinología y Diabetes (SOCHED), se desarrolló con éxito, y dejó conformes tanto a quienes fueron organizadores del evento, como también a quienes se dieron cita como asistentes en el Hotel Hotel DoubleTree by Hilton Santiago – Vitacura, los días 12 y 13 de mayo. “Estamos muy contentas con la Dra. Ana Rocha, de haber sido directoras de este curso, que por primera vez unió en una misma instancia, a estas dos áreas tan diferentes, pero sin duda complementarias. Reunimos un total de 281 personas inscritas, con participación de asistentes de Santiago, regiones y también extranjeros. Disfrutamos de excelentes conferencias, con 9 destacados invitados internacionales, y 17 nacionales, referentes en sus áreas, a quienes agradecemos enormemente. Además, tuvimos auspicios de 5 laboratorios y 10 instituciones fueron patrocinadoras, lo que constituyó un gran apoyo. Agradezco la confianza depositada en nosotras por parte de la Dra. Francisca Ugarte, Presidente SOCHED, para la organización de este curso de la manera más interesante y útil posible”, afirmó la Dra. Marcela Barberán. 25 de mayo: Día Mundial de la Tiroides

A nivel internacional, cada 25 de mayo se conmemora el Día Mundial de la Tiroides, con el objetivo de aumentar la conciencia en la población respecto a la relevancia en la salud de esta glándula endocrina. Su rol es fundamental en los procesos de crecimiento, desarrollo y metabolismo, cumpliendo un rol regulador esencial a lo largo de la vida de las personas.

En Chile, las alteraciones en su función son muy frecuentes, alcanzando cerca del 30% de la población, principalmente en el caso del hipotiroidismo. Producto de los avances en las técnicas diagnósticas, también ha aumentado significativamente la detección de nódulos tiroideos.

En los últimos años se han realizado importantes avances en el diagnóstico y tratamiento de las enfermedades de la tiroides, que cada vez están llegando a mayores segmentos de la población chilena.

La tiroides es una glándula en forma de mariposa ubicada en el centro del cuello, debajo de la laringe (conocida popularmente como la manzana de Adán) y por encima del esternón. Produce dos hormonas: la T3 y T4, las que regulan la forma en que el cuerpo utiliza y almacena energía (metabolismo), y son indispensables para el normal funcionamiento de prácticamente todos los órganos del cuerpo.

El Dr. René Díaz, endocrinólogo, miembro de la Directiva de la Sociedad Chilena de Endocrinología y Diabetes (SOCHED), nos informa en el siguiente video acerca de esta importante glándula: funciones, características y afecciones principales.
